BPP'S ANNUAL TAX SURVEY

For the past seven years, the BPP and its members and partners across the border region have been collecting data about the financial behaviors of clients in the border region. This data helps border-serving organizations better understand their reach and impact by presenting data comparisons across the region and against national statistics. The data also helps BPP and its members more effectively advocate for the region’s needs.

Every year, as we near the tax season of the coming year, the BPP works with both members and nonmembers to help them adapt the BPP Tax Survey in local tax activities in their communities; in particular VITA sites.

Sites that adopt the BPP Tax Survey are able to:

  • Contribute to a growing body of knowledge that enhances our shared understanding of trends and dynamics affecting the financial behavior of families and residents.

  • Access data compiled about their sites, communities and border regions to support their advocacy and programming efforts

In turn the BPP and partners have used this set of border-wide data to inform community leaders and policymakers about the financial behaviors of border families and the forces than encourage and/or impede a culture of savings and financial resiliency. The BPP continues to collect this data to grow a longitudinal body of knowledge on relevant trends, behaviors and dynamics.

For the 2011 tax year season, BPP has made available its TAX Survey in both English and Spanish. You can download the forms, along with the guidelines for use, below.
