In 2009, with the support of an Inter-American Foundation planning grant, BPP leadership commissioned a study to devise the best course of action for the partnership’s incorporation in Mexico as an Asociación Civil and Donataria Autorizada (the equivalent of a nonprofit organization with tax deductible status in the US). Through this process, BPP leadership become acutely aware of the unique challenges nonprofits that operate on both sides of the border, or that wish to do so, face when establishing a legal presence in Mexico. The lack of understanding and information available to help binational nonprofits establish themselves on both sides become equally apparent.
As a result, the BPP collected its learnings and observations in Beyond Borders: Observations for US organizations considering nonprofit incorporation in Mexico, a report that helps fill an important vaccum in our sector and one which we are pleased to now share with the border's nonprofit and philanthropic community.
