Memo to BPP and FABN Communities | June 1, 2010

The BPP and FABN have enjoyed a long history of collaboration. Both were formed in the mid 2000s with support from the same funding organizations and both serve the communities of the US-Mexico border region. In 2009, we co-convened our annual meetings, “The Border: A region of promise” to demonstrate to the entire border community the power of collaboration and partnership amongst civil society organizations to respond to needs and issues of the day.

Over the past years, the Frontera Asset Building Network has evolved into a committed network of 80 individual leaders from over 50 organizations representing the US Southwest border region. Since its formation, FABN has provided real asset building value to its membership through strong networking opportunities, sharing and learning of best practices, its annual learning institute, access to technical assistance funds, and participation in a national community of asset building practitioners.

Recently the BPP and FABN have engaged in conversations to explore the best possible way the two organizations could collaborate, support one another’s work and leverage resources for the greatest possible impact for border communities. After significant review, research, and reflection, the advisory committee of FABN with BPP leadership determined to join forces and become a single organization
serving the border region.

Becoming part of the BPP brings many important benefits for BPP and FABN, as well as to each of their participating organizations. The joining of forces brings together a robust collection of community foundations, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, and individuals to respond to the needs of families and communities in the border region.

Please join us in supporting this important transition. BPP and FABN are committed to strengthening philanthropy and the asset building sector, and to providing opportunities to serve low-income families in the U.S.-Mexico Border region.
